About ABT

What is Addiction?

Addiction is defined as not having control over doing, taking or using something to the point where it could be harmful to you. Addiction is most commonly associated with gambling, drugs, alcohol and nicotine, but it’s possible to be addicted to just about anything.

What is an anxiety?

People with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks).

What is CBT?

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It is most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems.

Habits are a recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behaviour that is acquired through frequent repetition.

Panic attack

A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions when there is no real danger or apparent cause.

What is TA or Transactional Analysis?

Transactional analysis is a psychoanalytic therapy wherein social transactions are analysed to determine the ego state of the patient (whether parent-like, child-like, or adult-like) as a basis for understanding behaviour. In transactional analysis, the patient is taught to alter the ego state as a way to solve emotional problems.

Therapy & Sessions

What happens in a typical session? What can I expect to happen?

This is something that is explained once the session has been agreed. Initially, both parties will share a little history and discuss, at the client’s own pace his or her concerns and why they believe they need to be seeing a therapist. The rooms are friendly and comfortable, secure and private. The session last for 50 minutes.

How much does a session cost?

Everyone is different and treated individually, therefore, unfortunately, there are different circumstances and requirements which prevent us from being able to publish a simple price list. All you have to do is raise the question of costs and pricing when you make your initial enquiry.

Is there an initial consultation before I commit?

As often as possible we like to have an initial meeting which is free of charge.

We always try to meet in person, perhaps at a coffee shop just as a chance to say hello and to see if we think we can work together. It’s a chance to take away the mystique and fear that sometimes surrounds therapy. We are just two people meeting and talking. If then the potential client wishes to make an official appointment to begin therapy he/she already knows the person that they will be seeing. If not the therapist will help, if required find the client someone who may be able to help. If it’s not possible to meet then often a Skype call can introduce the two.

About ABT Support

About us and our work.

At ABT we work towards a resolution and management of your issues. We work with the sole intention of giving back to you the control of your life that your issues have taken away. Rather than meet once a week or every two weeks we have a structure that usually but not always works over an 8-week cycle. In the first two weeks we see you three times in the following six weeks it is twice a week. The reason for this is at ABT we believe that success loves speed and we want you to get your life back as soon as possible. The eight weeks will give you a foundation of understanding, structure and new habit to take head on the challenges that life may throw at you.

Changing the way that we think and therefore behave is fundamental to the work that we do and the success that we have. This is true for anxieties, behaviours and addictions.

We work with complete confidentiality in a balanced and non-judgemental framework.
